Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush

Come and join the Woodstock Film Festival on Tuesday May 7 at Soho House in NYC for a screening of the engaging and riveting film, A Place at the Table. Hosted by Stephen Hays of 120db Films. Filmmakers Lori Silverbush and Kristi Jacobson will be there for a Q&A following the film. A reception including complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will follow the screening.

A Place at the Table is an engrossing new film that examines the paradox of hunger
in the wealthiest nation on earth. Directors Lori Silverbush and Kristi Jacobson take
audiences on a riveting journey into the lives of three of the 50 Million Americans
who don't know where their next meal is coming from; Barbie, a Philadelphia mother
trying to pull herself out of poverty and provide a better life for her young children;
Rosie, a Colorado fifth-grader whose family depends on charity food; and Tremonica, a
Mississippi second-grader whose asthma and health issues are exacerbated by the largely
empty calories her hardworking mother can afford.

A Place at the Table will change forever how you think about democracy, and show how we can end hunger quickly and effectively in America, forever.

All proceeds support the Woodstock Film Film Festival & New York City Coalition
Against Hunger and their Farm Fresh Initiative.

IN THEATERS

The Brass Teapot- April 5

The Hudson Valley Programmers Group recently presented two special screenings of The Brass Teapot at The Beacon Theatre in Beacon, NY and The Downing Film Center in Newburgh, NY. On April 5, the film will hit local theaters care of distributor Magnolia Pictures.

The Brass Teapot is the story of John and Alice —married and in their 20s, they are very much in love and broke. Once voted "most likely to succeed," Alice struggles to make ends meet while her friends enjoy the good life. Her husband John, neurotic and riddled with phobias, just wants to get the bills paid. But an accident leads them to a roadside antique shop where Alice is spontaneously drawn to a mysterious brass teapot. It isn't long before they realize that this is no ordinary teapot and that perhaps they have found the answer to all of their financial woes...

The Brass Teapot was produced in the Hudson Valley region with help from the Hudson Valley FIlm Commission, which leveraged NY State Tax Incentives, production assistance and regional locations to convince the filmmakers to move their production to the region.

"The Hudson Valley Film Commission provided location resources, helped to qualify a stage in Newburgh to better serve the production, helped to identify housing opportunities for the cast and crew and were intricate in helping us to navigate how to accomplish the film there," said producer Darren Goldberg, who has worked with HVFC on three other local productions.

strangerthings

Stranger Things- April 5

Stranger Things debuted at the Woodstock Film Festival in 2010 and made a strong
impression in the Hudson Valley winning the Maverick Award for Best Narrative Feature. Now it will make its theatrical debut at the reRun Gastropub Theater in Brooklyn.

Stranger Things tells of the unusual and touching bond that forms between the
isolated Oona and homeless Mani. Set against the backdrop of a quiet seaside village in
England, this beautifully shot tale of one stranger reaching out to another is the feature
debut of Eleanor Burke and Ron Eyal. Together, they have crafted a film that explores
grief and loneliness, but has at its heart a unique and distinctive pair who are able to
find solidarity and surprising intimacy in one another’s company. Through minimal and
nuanced filmmaking, Burke and Eyal deliver a compelling work that reveals a level of
maturity and sensitivity rarely found in first-time directors. New faces Akhtar and Collins
are magnetic in the central roles. -Jacob Brades

2011 WFF Official Selection Union Square, which made its US premiere at Woodstock hit DVD shelves and the VOD market on March 26. Nancy Savoca's latest feature stars Mira Sorvino and Tammy Blanchard (Rabbit Hole, Moneyball) as sisters leading divergent lives.

Jenny (Blanchard) is on the verge of marriage, Lucy (Sorvino) on the brink of a nervous breakdown. Both struggle with truths they're hiding from each other -- and from themselves. Jenny has rejected her tumultuous family and cut off communication, seeking a more ordered life far from her roots in the Bronx. And she's almost ready to commit to her longtime fiancé when her wildly outrageous sister Lucy --- the personification of all that Jenny has been trying to flee -- surprises her at this critical time. Lucy and Jenny's combustible reunion brings both of them to unforeseen places, shattering and reconstructing the worlds they have both carefully constructed.
