Guillermo Fesser at Book Nook
On June 28, Renowned Spanish author Guillermo Fesser will present his book One Hundred Miles from Manhattan, a fresh, funny, positive and affectionate portrait of life in small-town America—and beyond.
In 2002 Guillermo Fesser quit his morning radio talk show in Madrid, and moved with his family to Rhinebeck, N.Y., for a sabbatical year. Finding himself in a rural community 6,000 miles from home and 100 miles from New York City, Fesser began to discover an America he had never imagined existed.
Guillermo Fesser is a Spanish journalist mostly known in his country for his innovative morning radio talk show, Gomaespuma, which ran 25 years and had over 1 million listeners.
Fesser lives with his family in Rhinebeck, New York, where he broadcasts weekly stories on life in small-town America to Onda Cero Radio in Spain and blogs for The Huffington Post.
The Woodstock Film Festival is proud to co-sponsor this fantastic event with Woodstock's own independent bookstore, The Golden Notebook. For more information visit the Golden Notebook Online.
Guillermo's brother Javier, won Best Short at the Woodstock Film Festival in 2005 for BINTA AND THE GREAT IDEA. The film also received an Oscar nomination. Made in collaboration with Unicef to help children in the third world, the film chronicles the education of a seven-year-old Senegalese girl and her father’s ‘great idea.’

THE TIBETAN CENTER
The Tibetan Center on Rte 28 in Kingston continues its monthly film series with The Shadow Circus: The CIA in Tibet. The picture is a 1998 film by filmmakers Tenzin Sonam and Ritu Sarin, about a little known chapter of US history and a pivotal period in Tibet’s history. When Tibet was invaded by forces from Communist China, thousands of Tibetans took up arms and waged a bitter and bloody guerrilla war. From the mid-1950s until 1969 they were aided in their efforts by an unlikely ally, the CIA. The project, code-named ST CIRCUS, was one of the CIA’s longest running covert operations. The withdrawal of the CIA’s support in 1969 was as abrupt as its initial involvement was unexpected: the Tibetans had simply fitted into America’s larger policy of destabilizing or overthrowing Communist regimes, and were abandoned when that no longer applied.
Author Hortsang Jigme (A History of Amdo) will speak following the film.
Tickets are an $8 suggested donation at the door.
London National Theatre: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
The world’s best short films return to the historic Rosendale Theatre on Saturday night, June 14
OJ: THE MUSICAL (@ojthemusical)
OJ: The Musical is a comedy with allusions to the infamous OJ Simpson trial starring Larisa Oleynik (@loleynik) of The Secret World of Alex Mack fame and Malcolm Barrett (@malcolmbarrett). The WFF 2013 Official Selection and cult favorite directed by Jeff Rosenberg (@jeff_rosenberg) will make its theatrical debut in 16 locations nationwide through the company Tugg including in NYC at the AMC Loews Village 7 theatre and in LA at the AMC Loews Broadway 4 Theatre. It will be released for download on iTunes on June 17th. It will also be available on video-on-demand and PPV on that same day. Check out the trailer on Yahoo Movies.
OJ Simpson may be one of the most recognizable and infamous names of the last 20 years. So when overly eccentric theatre artist Eugene Oliver (Jordan Kenneth Kamp) decides to make Mr. Simpson the subject of his next musical, the results are truly something spectacular. Orenthal: The Musical, the hilarious new film from director Jeff Rosenberg, captures, in outstanding mockumentary style, the process of developing the greatest musical regarding a murder trial ever to be produced. With the help of some loyal childhood friends, a handful of local actors, and a group of producers from a biblical theater company, can Eugene and company overcome the obstacles they face and achieve their goal in creating the next great American musical? Orenthal, reminiscent of the work of Christopher Guest, is sure to have you laughing from Act I. - Sam Robotham
THE UNLIKELY GIRL
The Unlikely Girl a 2012 WFF official selection by filmmaker Wie Ling Chang can now be found on Itunes. Click HERE to order today.
"The sentence below is true. The sentence above is false.” These are the words that open the film THE UNLIKELY GIRL, the exceptional entrance into feature films by director, producer and writer Wei Ling Chang. Chang delivers a nuanced drama that keeps viewers guessing from titles to credits. THE UNLIKELY GIRL is set in rural France, where sheltered American exchange student Jamie finds herself caught in a love triangle with her host sister Cecile, and Cecile’s childhood friend, Luc. Cecile’s volatile temper and Luc’s long-held crush act as both deterrents and catalysts for the trio’s friendship. Jamie is quickly drawn in to their tangled web of lies and passionate intrigue. She soon comes to realize that her host family is not at all what she thought them to be. In order to uncover the truth, Jamie must question everything that she believes, and everyone that she knows. —Heather Olin (@holin2)
DINNER AT THE NO-GO's
Dinner at the No-Go's a WFF 2012 official selection by the award winning filmmaker Marco Antonio Orsini, (@MarcoDeMonaco) can now be found on iTunes and Amazon.
Everyone knows you’re not supposed to discuss politics and religion at a dinner party. Marco Orsini’s film starts with an intriguing proposition: forget about that. Orsini and producer Biala Mekkaoui take us on an international tour through the State Department's Travel Advisory list, also known as the “No-Go list,” where they film dinner parties and discuss only politics and religion. Invited to the dinners are provocative thinkers, lawyers, investors, artists, religious leaders, politicians, and activists. The filmmakers engage their guests on vital issues and ideas in search of a deeper understanding of the Arab Spring, the 9/11 attacks, two American wars in the Middle East and other pressing concerns. What they find is a series of fascinating conversations steeped in history and rich with emotions, fears and dreams. Along the way they visit Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, before landing at a truly fascinating dinner in Atlanta, Georgia for an all too familiar American perspective. To watch Dinner with the No-Go’s is like being a guest at a one-of-a-kind dinner party, where the main course is conversation. It is a conversation that will continue long after the credits roll – it’s fair to say the future of the world depends on it. –David Becker
